The twenty Lara Croft has just graduated in archeology and, driven by his stubbornness he embarks on an archaeological expedition on the ship Endurance, headed by Captain Conrad Roth, an old friend of Lara’s family in search of a legendary realm called Yamatai, driven the Queen of the Sun, Himiko.
After studying some texts, Lara becomes convinced that to find Yamatai must go towards the Devil’s Sea; convinced that the alleged paranormal activity found in that area are mere rumors, she convinces the expedition members to change course. The ship, however, is in the midst of a violent and sudden storm, it is literally broken in two and the group shipwrecked on a mysterious island on the edge of Japan. Lara remains alone and is stunned and imprisoned by a savage, that the hanging and leaves upside down inside a cave. Lara manages to break free and escape and began seeking his companions, and exploring the area surrounding the young runs into rudimentary dwellings, next to which echo religious songs, and realizes that the island is inhabited.
